The Adventures of One eskimO
In 2010 I stumbled across a band, an album and an animated hero. All three use the moniker One eskimO. Starting with the band and their self-titled debut release, I became hooked on their sound after a few seconds of listening to the song “Kandi.” Comparisons have mentioned a similarity to the band Coldplay, but One eskimO’s music isn’t as straightforward. It is slightly more haunting and experimental. The beautiful melodies and emotions are similar to Coldplay, but there is a–for the lack of a better term–“fuzziness” to their sound. I do love their music, and the album is one of my all time favorites. With this said, I want to do more than pimp out the band’s music.
The guys created a series of animated music videos accompanying the tracks on the album. The animation is The animations combine to form a movie that tells the story of, naturally a determined little Eskimo named–wait for it–One eskimO and his lifelong love, Little Feather. The Beginning They two met as infants when One eskimO gave her his star. The romance was born. Years later they are living a happy life together in their igloo home within their snow globe. We learn of the evil villain, Mr. Top Hat. He watches the snow globe until he decides to use a magical ax to split the snow globe in two so he can kidnap Little Feather.
Our Hero, One eskimO
Now alone, One eskimO grows more and more heartbroken. In despair, he begins to torture himself with thoughts that she may have left him. Thanks to a brave and wise owl, he finally learns that she is in great peril. With only a knapsack and enduring love, One eskimO sets out with a band of animal friends on an epic quest to rescue her. Will One eskimO save Little Feather? The animated clips accompany 10 of the 11 songs on the album. The only song not used is titled, “Givin’ Up.” It has to be because it doesn’t fit our little hero’s heart. The film is a beautiful experience of music and visuals. The entire animated story, all ten clips, are below. If a cartoon is not for you, I still recommend you check it out to hear an incredible album.
The song “Amazing” is one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard. I dare you not to like the acoustic version available to watch on YouTube. The song is truly like its title, “Amazing.”
